Standard #3: Learning Environments
Artifact #1
I have been thinking quite a lot about why I would like to become a teacher. I want to help better the next generation both educationally and help them better themselves on a personal level. Teachers aren’t just there to provide information for knowledge but they are also the people throughout the day who help us through troubles with peers, problems at home and outside the classrooms in school. I want to be the person students can look to for advice as well as be an open ear for them to talk to and maybe even a friend to those who need it. I want to provide a well-rounded education and help them to exceed in life and help them further themselves. I believe an education helps kids stay off the streets and progress toward a successful life.
I had a couple of teachers growing up whom I always looked to for help and advice when I had problems in school or at home. They helped me through the tough times and were always willing to stay late and talk to me or just listen if I needed it. I didn’t realize it then but it takes a lot for teachers to stop and listen. I stayed after school multiple days and just observed what teachers do after classes end. They really do have a lot on their plate and there job doesn’t end when the final bell rings. They take their work home with them. I greatly respect our educational system and what these teachers do for us.
I also had a couple of teachers who couldn’t be bothered to take them time to help me with a homework question let alone a personal problem. I can certainly say that I do not want to be like those teachers. I feel like teachers should at least take a small portion of time to help with the work they assigned. Teachers like that make me want to be a better educator. I want to be the person students know they can go to for anything. It doesn’t have to be just the assigned work or questions dealing with the lesson that day. I genuinely want to help them in every aspect of life.
I want to improve the lives of students like mine was. I look forward to helping them, and I don’t mind putting in the extra time and taking my work home with me. I feel like I would greatly enjoy building lesson plans that would be enjoyable and relatable subjects for students. I look forward to helping them learn and excel. I wouldn’t mind taking papers home to grade. I want to see how my students would progress in class and it would help me to better understand their learning styles. It would help me adapt and change my styles to suit their needs. I would continue to learn even outside of my own education. Overall I am very excited to pursue a career as an educator.

*In EDU250 we were given an assignment over tracking and homework. This gave us the opportunity to think and talk with our fellow classmates about the benefits of homework and whether or not it would be beneficial in the teaching environment. After talking to my fellow classmates I determined that homework is beneficial to keeping order and developing a routine that would help the students to engage and enhance their learning styles. I also learned that diversity isn't a burden but a strength in the classroom and helps to create diversity in the classroom. It keeps the lectures from becoming too static and keeps the students interested.
